For the October Chapter meeting, we will once again meet at the Novotel Ottawa for a remarkable event. Come out and join us for our informative presentations and great networking with your coworkers, colleagues and friends! We'll discuss where should the security group be in your organization and provide insight on how hackers are able to bypass authentication solutions. We've got a lot to cover. Don't miss this one!

We'll be in the Aurora Room on the 3rd floor. Bring your business cards, come early to network and meet our guests speakers before dinner. A cash bar will be available all evening.

Parking is available at the hotel, and other (cheaper) options nearby. See: parkopedia.

Registration is required so that we can provide an accurate headcount for event logistics, space, and meals. Registration closes on October 22.

How Secure Is Your Authentication?!

With the onslaught of advancing cyber intrusion attacks and data breaches, many companies are quickly adopting 2FA and MFA solutions. Many authentication and identity access management solutions are centered around convenience and ease of use but with a significant trade-off for its own security. Mick will provide you with insight on how hackers are able to bypass these solutions, as well as exposing the risks of newer authentications protocols, namely biometric authentications.

The place of a security group in an organization, Pitfalls, Sneers, and Attitudes

As security professionals we work within groups that are typically hard to place within an organization. Between management confusion about the group's role to attitudes from other groups, the security professional can face many challenges to accomplish tasks and advance a more secure product or environment. This talk covers some of those factors based on the presenter's past experiences. Sarcasm is used to highlight pain points. The format attempts to use audience discussion to bring ideas and solutions forward. The goal is to provide suggestions and solutions as to how best position a security group within an organization to meet the challenges faced in environment, technology, and demand.
