Come one, come all to the ISSA Ottawa Annual General Meeting, with a twist. On May 30 we will recognize the extraordinary contributions by a deserving individual to the continued success and growth of the Ottawa area information security community.

Professor Syd Hancock is the founder of the Algonquin College Information Systems Security certificate program (1999), of which many of our members are successful graduates. In his first career as a Senior Officer with the Security Branch of the Canadian Army, Syd was an early pioneer in forging the links between traditional security and policing and communications security (the precursor to today's IT Security). Syd has had a long association with the ISSA Ottawa Chapter, instrumental in forming the current chapter and serving on the Board of Directors in a number of key roles.

Contribute to this event by sharing your anecdotes on Syd's contributions to ISS or his influence on your career are requested by 27 May via email to the Chapter president.

After a brief award presentation and testimonials, the focus of this event will be an interview with Syd, during which we will hear his reflections on his two careers in the information security field and benefit from his insightful opinions on the current state of affairs and the way ahead.

If you ever thought about joining, contributing, or having your say, this is your opportunity. We are looking for fresh ideas and have openings for President, V.P., Secretary and Communications Director.

VOLUNTEER JUDGES NEEDED:

The ISSA Ottawa Information Security Student Paper Contest 2013 offers cash prizes sponsored by Dalian and a chance to be published. We are reaching out to our Chapter professional membership to assemble a team of judges to review and score the student papers. Judging will be performed during the first two weeks of April.

Student Paper Contest 2013 : Deadline Extended to April 10th, 2013

The ISSA Ottawa Information Security Student Paper Contest, sponsored by Dalian Enterprises, is for students enrolled in post-secondary IT security programs in the Ottawa area. Cash prizes and a chance to be published. For details and how to submit, go here.

ISSA Ottawa has switched to a third-party service (Constant Contact) to help us manage the registration process for chapter events. It uses the familiar PayPay registration method (easy to use, no account needed).

REMINDER

If you register for an event, then PLEASE honour your commitment (or if you need to cancel then let us know as soon as possible). This is important to avoid hotel fees for unused registrations and to ensure space for everyone who wants to attend.

Established in 1991, the mission of the Ottawa Chapter of the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA) is to provide a friendly, interactive environment for those with an interest in information security. Through meetings, guest speakers, discussion forums, this website and the concerted efforts of our members, we strive to accomplish this goal. These local Chapter level benefits are augmented by the advantages of membership in ISSA International which provides an e-newsletter, educational online webinars, and partnerships with other IT security organizations many of whom offer discounts to ISSA members.

All of this is aimed towards helping members be more effective in their work both technically and personally, and towards providing professional development opportunities.
